I wouldn't say the end of a relationship should be the end of a friendship, but I would say cheating (as far as one party knows) should.

I'm sorry, but this crow has been stuck in my throat since chapter one and I think it always will.

I get it. Cheating is bad and a deal breaker (I avoid ntr like the plague), but I don't know why this point still bothers people. We know that Lemon lied about it. She never cheated; she was just a stupid middle school girl. Sunao is pretty sure it was a lie and has no hard feelings for Lemon. Just wondering what her reason for lying was.

I agree it was dumb and most likely used to draw in readers but I didn't think it would make people feel so sick lol.

Most people don't remains friends with their exes, even with a "friendly" parting, since break-ups usually are unilateral. It's understandable that either parties would wish to keep some distance, either because they still or no longer love that person.

Couples who are able to communicate well enough to agree on a bilateral break-up are probably less likely to do it anyway, since they can probably resolve their problems by talking.

Lemon said somewhere that the cheating was a lie, though she didn't say it to MC, and so far hasn't told anyone why she broke up with him.
Akiyoshi also said to Glasses-kun that he thinks the whole cheating thing was a lie, but again, didn't mention anything beyond that.
So the cheating thing is mostly resolved. That said, suddenly breaking up with someone using an awful lie like that isn't exactly endearing - anyone who is not a rom-com protagonist would be resentful over that.

this manga makes no sense and nothing of note will happen in the next 4000 chapters its insane

also i dont really see what basis the MC has for knowing its a lie, and have 0 idea why he is still so close to her without even bringing it up past the 1st chapter

It bothers people because if this was a LN the title would be "How I got back together with the childhood friend that broke up with me by telling me the most hurful lie ever, no wait guys I swear she isn't a bitch let me explain over the couse of 200 stalling chapters how she is a nice girl, what do you mean she should know better and being a teenager isn't a blank check"

It is the worst first impression ever.

There is no way Lemon can manage to make Sunao fall for her after this (not that she cares about how he feels anyway). It was already looking pretty bleak to begin with but now its completely done.

And they didn't have a normal break up. She outright destroyed his outlook on relationships throughout highschool. So no, you can't stay friend with someone like that and i'm sure koga would agree if she knew.

i mean just look at his reaction to her in the first chapter lmao dude was having nightmares about her for years called her a 'witch' and genuinely hated her

i dont understand why the author is sweeping it under the rug just address it lol
also surely koga would change her outlook on lemon if she knew.. feel like the author has written themselves into a corner

It's because, Sunao and Lemon need some deep talk confrontation about this thing. Which this manga have very bad job at it, they should've talked the first time they got reunited, instead they keep Sunao and Lemon relationship going on like an ex-couple without a baggage.
We know she probably lying about cheating, but MC still doesn't know. This manga always portraying lemon as someone who dedicated her loves for MC, but again, for MC, he still doesn't know about that, the only thing he should know is she's an ex who cheated on him.
And i found it hard to believe that normal people could easily forget and forgive their cheating ex-partner just because 'i think they lying about cheating on me' like what Sunao said a couple chapters ago. She maybe still stupid middle school girl when she claimed she's cheating on him, but that doesn't make his feeling less hurt.
We as a reader can probably forget & forgive Lemon because the manga just sweep the cheating's part under the rug and makes Lemon forgiveable, but for MC, she's the source of his trauma (which this manga also forget about it)

I really don't disagree with anything you said. It's all true. My thing is that I blame the writer. It was a flimsy premise that could be fixed by just talking. Manga built on something like that is going to be filled with a lot of frustration. I realized how it was going to go 5 to 10 chapters in. It just doesn't worry me so much. With the bad premise and all, I am still interested in the entertaining side characters and Sunao becoming a competent MC. Lemon is going to have to pull a miracle to get him back. He seems to be moving past his trauma and growing quite well. I think he'll approach Lemon and the situation quite well in the future but I think he is over her.

…assuming Sunao and Lemon ACTUALLY are just friends now… I feel bad for Kogahara now because of this stupid romcom.

the manga didn't forget that the cheating thing was a source of trauma for the MC, and it's not just lightly brushing it off, either and the MC even commented on it. if you were told by your partner years ago that they were cheating on you with several people, only for them to later tell you "sorry I told a stupid lie", yea, you would continue to hold a grudge. but you also don't get to deal with the experience of literally walking in their shoes as often as you walk in your own. body swapping on its own is a seriously traumatic experience, and when you have to deal with that, many issues stop seeming so large. besides, it's kinda hard to bear a grudge against someone that you have to pretend to be half of the time. to pretend to be someone, you've got to really understand them, and with understanding comes acceptance.

if anything, it'd be far more unrealistic if he was still referring to lemon as "witch" in his internal monologues by this point. constant body swapping is one hell of a way to speedrun character growth.

She was still willing to allow mc to believe she cheated on him with numerous guys and still expects him to be friends with her when approached years later.

Even if you lied about it the fact that you believe it's okay to say it and assume the relationship should be okay just seems entitled

She had forgotten about the lie until he mentioned her probably having lots of boyfriends in college way back toward the end of chapter 1. The way I'm reading the end of that chapter is that she had thought he'd forget about it and then forgot about it herself. She was generally happy to run across him again, not as a boyfriend but as a childhood friend.

She SHOULD definitely straighten up the lie, but then she would probably have to tell him the real reason which she clearly doesn't want to do. And the author doesn't want to tell us either, if they've thought it completely out even.
