The communication failure spiral makes sense. She wanted them to pause their relationship because of social pressure and not wanting to seem pathetic and bullied and solve her own problems from foolish pride. She lost courage and didn't deliver the part where she was joking and subject to rumors and did need them to take a break.

But...

Why doesn't she talk to him again for years though?

This is the part that lost me. Or why doesn't she try to clear up the miscommunication?
(answer:then it couldn't be used to inject Drama)

True, only the initial part is realistic. We'll have to see why they just cut off comms for years... but having the same happen to me with many friends just not really replying to texts or calls or meet-ups... yeah. If Lemon started thinking Sunao hated her or something, I can see this all happening IRL.

I guess I should say I can see why they wouldn't talk again (especially when Sunao tried to find her and couldn't) but the fact its been this long since their reunion and they haven't hashed it out is a big glaring plothole.
