Man, this is so stupid, but I guess that's a teenager for you, huh. Basically, this guy's whole issue is that he shows signs of an inferiority complex and maybe jealousy of his mom remarrying.
What's the problem with parents wanting their child to achieve good grades in school and dedicate themselves to studying? None.
Now, if a parent gets violent when their child does not achieve 'perfection' in school, yeah, that's an issue, but so far it doesn't look like it's the case here.

I don't get why people who lashed out at MC didn't mention anything about his mom.
I mean, i, too, was thinking that MC was just having a hard time accepting his new family and just being overly sensitive about that, but mother's actions were total red flag - first by trying to tip toe around his trauma she rubes it in further, then she outright accuses him of lying when he tells he got a female friend a few seconds after trying to apologize (again). And looking back, step-sister's comment about being a normal family is also a warning sign - as if she cares more about appearances, instead of him.

Spoiler: UPD:

Welp, as far as manga is concerned, nothing about this is followed on, as manga revolves pretty much only around Kazemiya's family. Step-sister does bring up rumors about Kazemiya and "normal family" concept once more, but otherwise acts pretty friendly (if a bit teasingly) towards MC and even Kazemiya. Mom acts super curious about Kazemiya next chapter, but then does nothing out of the ordinary. Step-dad doesn't have much presence of his own. In the end, my original feeling that MC is just being overly sensitive was reaffirmed, especially in comparison to the Kazemiya's situation.

If comments are to be believed, though, manga follows LN (that was axed at 2 volumes), and they both are different from WN, where MC's family situation does play bigger role.
