I once found an old book with a dedication, too:I definitely know how she feels; I bought a used copy of a book that had gone out of print, and while it was in very good condition it had this dedication in it:
"To, Amy Christmas 2003
Love, <illegible>"
I have no idea why Amy got rid of it, or if they were even the last person to own it. It's just a small, unexpected glimpse into someone else's life.
Don't you dare parry him, or you'll trigger his Daigo trauma!![]()

I'm late, but I've sent out replies to letters and New Year's cards. 📮
I couldn't reply to those who didn't write their names, but I've replied to all the letters I've received (including those from overseas). ✉️Thank you for your support!
I recommend Hon nara Uruhodo, featuring a used bookstore owner. The very first chapter "Last Rites of Books" is an exploration of that theme. Peak content, kind of wistful.there’s a recycling center near where i live, and i occasionally go through their pile of old books. they often have all sorts of different personalizations, custom bookplates, marginalia, little notes that give a tiny pinhole into somebody else’s life, entirely devoid of context except for the fact that in the present, it has been discarded. I think about those books a lot. i feel like, given time, it’s not improbable that these little flecks of memory are the last things in the world that provide proof that someone once existed
