You can said he isn't a bad dude, but his fault is he didn't care about his fiance at all.
He assumed her personality and behavior and never investigate about it. He didn't even know how badly she is mistreat by his own circle and family, he just never care enough to know.

Now she is gone and he see his friend pick a fight and humiliate his ex-fiance publicly, his friend look down and laugh too. Now he know but that too late.
