Yesterday, I received a private message from someone who claimed to be an employee of Phase Six, the company that is providing translation of Monkey Peak to Antarctic Press, the publisher. Apparently, the first volume is going to be released next month. The company wants me to take down my translation to ensure their sales won't affected. They reached out to me as instructed by the staff members. Can staff members confirm this? What really bugs me is the convenient timing of this request, just a few weeks after I've just finished translating the final chapter. He also requested me to:

We hope to translate the full series including Monkey Circle and The Rock, so I'd like to ask you to take down
your scanlations from this and any other site they may be posted on
in order to give the series the best chance
possible at success with a printed release.

I don't think he understands how aggregate sites like Mangakakalot works...? Even if I do take down my translation here, they would still exist on other sites. Some of those sites might have even more traffic than Mangadex. Another thing is, with how dodgy translated works have been recently, I have concerns about the quality of their so-called official work. My translation and editing are clearly amateurish. They should not match the quality of the official products. If people think their official translation is not good enough, they are free to compare it with mine. I won't lie. I do hate to see years of translating being wasted. If I had been asked to stop after the first few volumes, I would have done so.

So, what are the consequences if I refuse to take it down? Has anyone heard of this company, their reputation? I don't know if I can just disregard his message, lol. What if I get banned for whatever reason before I can take it down? What the hell am I supposed to do about the other aggregate sites? I swear I've seen both official and unofficial translation of some manga on this site before. Mangadex isn't forced to take down unofficial translation? What should I do?

Time to reuse your vietcong tunnels bro.. mangadex probably dont care unless its a huge publisher but you should pray they dont investigate deep enough and found enough stuff to find you in person legally. Vietnam was aligning to the western world last 2-3 years for investment (but kinda slowing down now) and your govt probably dont mind to use you as an example. I think there are a couple of vietnam based aggregator caught/shut down too before.

That much is true.

When we receive a takedown request that is reasonably personalized, we always first recommend they get in touch with the scanlation teams involved.

For the rest, we unfortunately can't give you advice as it depends on a lot of factors and is generally unpredictable.

If I were in your shoes, the Mangadex staff didn't ask me to and I had my identity concealed, I would simply tell them that their sells won't be affected (in fact, they probably are publishing it because people who read your scanlation put it into the poll for further licenses), as aggregator sites will keep the scanlation plus the official translation because someone is going to upload it in a torrent file and they'll be unable to stop that. In short, if they're worried about sales taking it down from this site (the only one you can I assume), it won't affect at all in the outcome, and if they decided to release a fully translated series they knew the risks. And heck, deleting something you've devoted yourself to? And unlike aggregator sites, we link it to the official translation release, so we're doing a favour to them. About their quality, I don't expect much from official publishers.

NovellaLikes2Read is likely their assassin. They're coming for you. You should pack up and go into hiding before it's too late.
