Soap is an ancient invention, but seeing how so many isekai authors come up with this plot of the isekaied Japanese person needing to introduce soap in the world that looks like 18th or even 19th century, we can definitely draw the conclusion that Japan would have been an exception and soap is a relatively modern invention over there.
