I like the mc, but he really needs a backstory as to why he's so nice, it just doesn't make sense. if he had a backstory, this would be one of my favorite drama/romance manga.

it looks like she's going to end up being his love interest, but i'd prefer more of an adopted daughter/younger sister thing instead.

@TheNeedlemouse Dude, this "prejudice" only manifested after reading countless manga. It just happened so much in the mangas I read that it really started pissing me off. If it was just a cheap unrealistic plot device, why is it used so goddamn much ?

@Kutabarie "there's an asshole character in manga, therefore all asian people are pieces of shit with no heart" bro what? you are a seriously dumb fuck who doesn't know how to read. literally every other character except for him so far has been super nice and supportive but lets just focus on the ONE BAD CHARACTER IN THE WHOLE MANGA UP TO THIS PONT.

Some people just have White Knight Syndrome.
They see a girl or child or somesuch and think "PROTECC".
Sometimes they figure it earns them sex. Sometimes they just want to flex their supposed Good Guy cred to the world. And more often in fiction, they're just a two-dimensional caricature of what society wants to suggest people should be. Almost always, they're objectifying the target of their misaimed impulses and assuming said target is a weak and frail creature that can't survive without help... which is generally patronising and often wrong.
It is more common than you might think.
