This chapter is devastating, but It kinda feels more devastating than it should, if that makes sense? don't get me wrong it's depressing and fucked me up, but I feel there is a reason it hit much harder than I expected, and I think I understand why.

The very first thing you see in the manga is the promise, with many recurring flashbacks to that moment. From the very start it's establish that meeting her again would be some sort of pivotal moment. In a cliché romance mange that would be the moment they reconnect and fall in love again, but we obviously all know this not gonna happen.

So while no one expected something happy, what was expected is some sort of closure to that part that was built up, but there was none. Just like that, it's over, and he will never see her again.

It's not just that she comes to hate and despise him, it's that she does so and it's a core part of her existence that she's was willing to dedicated her life for him to suffer, there is zero chance or opening in her heart for any reconciliation, there is nothing that can ever be done.

She will hate him until the moment she die and he will live the rest of his short life knowing that, and that lack of closure is what emphasized the despair of that moment.

Fuck n ...
I was waiting that he give the money at observer girl and reduce her debt o_O
That is the part that hit harder than anything else for me, like you just threw away her potential future. Also, plot hole, how does he actually have 300k yen left? He got 300k plus what less than 10k yen from selling everything before his lifespan? I imagine he was pretty broke before then too, but he got a haircut, clothes, paid for dinner for them along with dinner for himself for a bit and traveled.

Has it been established at any point that you can use money to reduce the debt? She was originally told that her only options were lifespan, time or health, no mention of money being an option.

I mean I thought the point of selling his life was to get money to pay for her life.

It was apparently established later on.

But yeah, you could get money for selling your lifespan, but they hadn't mentioned anything about how buying worked. And technically I guess they should have told her that a fourth option, money, existed.

Well, that sucks. Miyagi had warned MC about meeting Himeno, so I was expecting cold reunion. But the fact that she warmed up surprised me. So, the ending of this chapter double surprised me...

I really wish we got Himeno's pov. It seemed like she considered ending her life since she was a kid. Why? What's going on in her head? I'm really curious :(

Edit: rereading her letter again, it seemed like she hated him when they were kid. I guess their rivalry was worse than what MC realized. She intended to jump from the platform in front of MC (to guilt trip him I guess), but got saved instead.
Years later, she sent a cryptic letter asking MC for help, but "got ignored", so she hated him even more, especially when he showed up casually.

A month has passed, and this particular chapter still haunts me to this day. There's just something so brutal and unforgiving about this whole situation that makes me feel extremely devastated, but I just can't explain it well given my poor wording skills.

No, it's not the fact that Himeno blamed Kusunoki, but rather the harsh blow of reality that Kusunoki received. He had idealized something enormously and clung to it for years, only for him to realize that 'something' had despised him all along (a subtle hint to this is when Himeno almost "fell" at the viewing platform when they were 10). And when you add that with Himeno telling him, "You had it worse than mine, so it's not worth the 'revenge' anymore. I just hope you die like you told me you would soon" through the letters after she vanished away, that straight up ripped me apart. I think what carbpan said at the top summed up my thoughts on this better than my words, so please read that if you see this.

Damn I didn't even realize that. That's fucked up, fucked up.
