I sort of expected those people to try to enter that neighboring country since the MC has remained in a border town instead of going deep inside the other country to make it harder to kidnap him.

That would make a lot of sense. Since the typical quests for goblins, orcs, and wolves are probably repeatable as these are recurring problems, the MC can simply do an orc quest each week until he finally runs out of orc "proof of kill" to turn in for more guild credits. The gradual turn-ins would also let him have an excuse to always have "Pork" available for sale to various butcher shops, inns, and street stalls in the city. After all, he has a merchant guild membership. I wonder how taxes work on merchant income.
