always thought this was a prequel but apparently it came out years before the sequel, which kind of makes this even creepier for some reason

i like it a lot, but for some reason it doesnt entirely fit ichi's backstory. i think the OVAs version is a bit better of a story that more shows why hes like the way he is (which does take parts from this manga), because in this the sexual urges when killing just seem out of no where, this seems more like a stand alone thing than fitting in the whole story. still an amazing story by a great author!
