The whole premise is destroyed by giving an arbitrary age of 30 to the whole cast. Like MOST idols retire at 25, some magical unicorns that manage to retain their "girlish" physique and appearance can last until 30 but that's rare and can be counted on fingers.
IN GENERAL in many Asian countries 25 and over are considered old and declining. There are even special terms for these people about Christmas cake. Acceptable age is being shifted but it's is mostly underdog opinion, more or less if you are not married by 30 you are considered "used goods" "old maiden" and etc. Women over 30y are not popular.
As for idols most of them retire at the age 25, some go to music some go to acting a lot of them though become grown ups and marry or get a job.

This is dumb beyond words. First, because it indulges in that whole idol purity bullshit as the biggest roadblock for Kirara. Oh my god, she had sex! Now she can't sing and dance anymore! Oh, wait. No. Turns out having sex doesn't rob you of your musical talent, it just makes you unpopular to weirdo purity-worshipping incel losers who can't cope with the idea that a person they like in a creepy parasocial way has a life outside of them.

Meanwhile he's going to be her manager, something the actual boss doesn't want and actively opposes, but somehow what's going to convince everyone to let him have the job is that he's setting conditions for his acceptance (which is silly considering you normally only have the leverage to set conditions when you are desired for the job, not when you're begging for it) two of which are a) I need to find out if I can even do this without getting fired from my real job and b) I need someone to teach me everything about doing this job that I just recklessly signed up for.

And then all of this is for the photos of him and Hebo, which he needs because he wants to marry her? That basically makes the photos irrelevant. Because 1) the photos get out and she would presumably stop being an idol because of the aforementioned purity bullshit or 2) the photos don't get out, but they would not be able to marry while she was an idol because of, again, the aforementioned idol purity bullshit. It's laid out directly in the second chapter that she would have to "graduate" before marrying.

They need to do this because it's the only way to maintain the drama and tension that the story requires outside of just focusing on the two of them getting to know each other, but it's so silly and artificial that it makes me not give a crap.
Isn't it pretty stupid to complain about idol culture in a manga about idols? If you have a hard time accepting the fact that idol culture exists and pretty widespread in Japan and that a manga about idol will inevitably include that part of the culture, don't read any manga about idols.

It's not about accepting that culture, it's about acknowledging they exist and not complain whenever it gets brought up as a plot device. This is not the place to rage against idol culture. Do it where discussions about this could be actually productive.

Still not entirely sure I trust the boss, I seem to remember they made a suspicious phone call at the beginning of the series. I don’t think they were talking about the MC on the last page though.
Prob the guy the other idol slept with. He said he had some questions for her so I'm guessing he did something

i don't like this type of plot, i'm guessing that she was druged and at the worst case raped, when i started to read this i just thought that i would see funny couple interactions but i got to idol manager thing that i really don't like since i think that idol industry is disgusting, i mean having it as a sub plot is ok but mc becoming a manager himself is putting me off so i guess that i will drop this

well the title of this manga is "Will You Marry Me Because I Quit Being an Idol?", so just like me he might have thought that idol stuff would be more like a sub plot since fl is quitting all this idol thing and the focus would be in the couple interactions, so our option is just to drop i guess i also liked the first chapters but ain't eager to continue reading after mc said that he will become a manager i mean wtf why?

Why in the fuck would the pictures of them together leaking in any way prevent them from getting married? Sure, her reputation among pathetic, obsessive idol otaku will be irreparably tarnished - but fuck those people. They're gross. But how does it impede their marrying one another? That's pants-on-head retarded.

Because having to undergo a massive scandal right before your marriage is incredibly difficult on a new relationship

Of course it is. But homeboy is acting like it precludes them from being able to get married at all. That's fucking stupid. The drama in this series is incredibly contrived. Then again, I went be complaining about this further since I dropped this series after catching up today on a whim. It's awful and shows no signs of improvement.

What do you mean you are not sure if he's a guy or a girl... He is a guy AND an okama type characters. It's practically spelled out for the readers by the way he's dressed, speaks, and his mannerism. Or her, depending on the okama type (which we do not know as of this chapter).

nah that suspicious phone call was just to make the readers not trust the boss, its obviously a trap to give the readers a misunderstanding that will be revealed later. Also the guy the boss mentioned on the last pannel was probably that Netorare Antagonist looking guy from Kiraras picture.

well not gonna argue completely against you so hear me out:
First that purity thing in Japan is a big thing like a big fucking thing, that depending on the fanbase can ruin someones career cause of the dumbest reasons.

Second the conditions he had are utter bullshit of a reason to hire him because of it, the point though is that it showed he was actually serious, showing his resolve to do this, which is probably what convinced the boss, aside from the boss just being a nice guy that seems to like kirara as well.

third and last thing: Yeah you right if that picture gets released she will be forcefully made to graduate and he could marry her faster... well if we ignore paparazzi and outraged fans that is. It is kinda a roundabout argument and I'd say there is a higher chance its just a plot hole but if we think about what would happen if that picture gets released then we can assume the following:
Massive outrage of her fans and increased activity of paparazzi around her, Which she could then slowly calm down after a couple of months and continue being an idol as usual under normal circumstances, but since she already planned to graduate she either needs to graduate a lot sooner and more abruptly or first calm her fans down and then graduate a year or so later.

If she graduates abruptly without having her fans calmed down enough then that will lead to a bunch of paparzzi trying to figure out who that guy is and what his relationship with the idol is. And thats gonna be a big pain in the ass, cause that means chances of a peacefull wedding and married life will be ruined for like half a year or smth and in the worst case some delusioned outraged fan might want to actually kill MC

So her safest way of dealing with that situation is break contact with MC and then continue as an idol or graduate and then keep it low for half a year or more till everything passes on and she can get together with MC again. Either way massive loss for the company and MC as someone who's picture was revealed might get a couple of problems

You're missing the point, The point wasn't that, my point was whether a sex tape leak is as bad as being caught molesting a child? It's clearly two different things.

Leaking of Sextapes is a rather really personal matter which will affect your career, for sure. But is it on the same frequency as molesting a child which can destroy your entire social life and career AND will certainly put you in prison?
Notably, in the latter the person commits a wrong, whereas in the former they are being wronged, so not only are they different, they are completely opposite to each other.

That aside, what the fuck is this manga on about? Where the hell does Hebo get the idea it's ok to judge Kirara for sleeping with a guy and causing a scandal when she was close to doing the same fucking thing? If those photos leaked she'd be in almost the exact same position, so what the hell is this shit?

The problem is that even Hebo seems to be judging Kirara for it (even though in a previous chapter she commented on not knowing the full story herself), which is just utterly fucking stupid, especially when Hebo is in a similar position, where she slept with a guy and now has to keep it secret. In what world does she have any right to comment on Kirara's situation?

It's one thing for idol culture to be in the manga, another for characters we are supposed to like to actively embrace it. Oshi no Ko didn't get this kind of pushback, because at no point did it entertain that this kind of purity shit was anywhere near ok.

Hebo’s clearly shown to be in the wrong though? She doesn’t get the whole picture, she just knows that someone she trusted made a sex tape and abandoned them without a word.

She doesn't even need the whole picture is the thing, either way she has no right to judge Kirara. So her being shown to be in the wrong because she lacked the full picture just doesn't matter, because she was never in the right to begin with.

I won’t get into whether or not Hebo was justified in her feelings.

The crux of the argument is that Hebo is shown to be in the wrong about this, so the manga isn’t defending idol purity, so far both the FemC and Kirara are shown to betray that expectation, they’re human. In fact Idol purity has been shown to be nothing but a hinderance that’s unrealistic/impossible to achieve, it’s showing the industry is deeply flawed. Just because a character does something in a story doesn’t mean the story is saying what they’re doing is right.

Yes, a character doing something in a story does not mean the story is saying they are right to do so, but I don't think that applies here, because I don't think Hebo is shown to be in the wrong here outside of simply not knowing the full picture, which, again, shouldn't even matter. There is no pushback from other characters, no framing of her as the unreasonable one, and even the resolution of it all doesn't happen because the MC particularly thinks Kirara deserves a chance, but simply because of some contrived logic of wanting to get married. So no, I don't really agree that she's being shown as wrong in any meaningful way. I think the framing of the whole situation is odd, and I think that's what other complaints picked up on, too.

First of all, I agree that idol purity bullshit is gross and weird and in principle has no right to be taken seriously. However, it does exist and it's basically cultural in Japan, so idol stories will all function under these rules. So while it's dumb as a general concept, it doesn't make this work any dumber than literally every other idol-centric romcom. There are other idol-related works that are more critical of the culture itself, but they are a very small minority.

Him getting accepted by the boss as a manager certainly was kind of a stretch. You could maybe argue that him setting out conditions showed that he took the idea seriously and laid out practical steps necessary to actually make it work. But especially asking to be trained to do the job before you start the job is pretty out there. It would've helped if it had been set up previously that he had at least some relevant skills already.

Regarding the photos and getting outed, it's not really irrelevant, because remember that it was previously established that unless Hebo can graduate in an amicable way without any scandals, they feared that her reputation would be ruined and that she might get harassed by ex-fans later in life, which would sabotage the happy married life the MC and Hebo envision. The three month delay is at least ostensibly for the company to have time to properly prepare for and advertise her graduation in a way that the fanbase can accept.

All in all, the writing isn't perfect by any means, but I don't think it's quite as bad as that.
