He always being narcissistic. if he is talented, it probably worse when he learn MC have higher rank spirit. even as talentless, he using people to make him feel bigger and salty when the reality hits. if he talented, the come someone that lower status than him defeat him, he going to throw tantrum like a kid.

good thing he talentless, it easier to beat him down.

I don't think this backstory makes him entirely sympathetic - yes, he was looked down by his mother and his servants but in the most "middle manager" move ever, he wanted someone he pass his own misery on to.

And god, his act about trying to garner sympathy reminds me of a teacher from way back when... an utterly dull and incompetent man who tried to boost his station by playing counselor.

These are real people by the way, this kinda of guy goes on barking about how manly he is and preaching about so called "traditional values" but have the smallest ego around, just last month my 26 year old neighbor threatened to kill his wife and kids just because the wife was starting to earn more than him and like 3 months ago some old dude in the same city tried to kill his 40 year old kid because he didn't want to buy the house he wanted and because his wife paycheck was bigger than his pension and that's just these last 4 months.

I really like this backstory, tbh. It doesn't try to make him a better character, it doesn't excuse anything he does, but it puts a lot of his bullshit into context. Plus the whole bit of him clearly being an asshole (but people calling him a good person), the reason he wants her but still belittles her, etc.
