Because what if you fail? At an unrelated thing for an unrelated reason. Should you undermine your whole life because you've failed at one thing that has nothing to do with anything else?

God, I felt the same way when they were at a festival back in ch 106 and playing the "love fortune stone" game where your romance will be affected whether you can walk over and touch the rock with your eyes closed. When he got momentarily lost, he had a similar breakdown this chapter. It wasn't even played for laughs or anything, he literally imagined a whole future he never got together with Nagatoro and she was already dating someone else.

Meanwhile the whole time I'm just thinking, "It's just a fucking rock, why is the main couple acting like its all over?"
