Finally, someone said it.
Whenever characters start to tie down their romantic path to irrelevant outside events, I'm always reminded of this short manga:
https://mangadex.org/chapter/8bf59b2d-0682-4d10-8e9d-b7e479ecf56e

Because what if you fail? At an unrelated thing for an unrelated reason. Should you undermine your whole life because you've failed at one thing that has nothing to do with anything else?

Now it's time to see how Nagatoro will lose... or will she? The odds are not in her favor, but I can see some kind of twist coming, like Orihara getting eliminated before the finals and Nagatoro winning the tournament like that. It'd be similar to how Senpai fared: she'd beat her rival, but could not fully attain her goal just yet.
The second Yoshi said the next match began, I'm sure they will arrive and find out she already lost

Finally based prez says what the readers are thinking.

Pretty dumb to essentially gamble a relationship on something silly as a competition.
I've always hated that trope in romance manga because it's just so false. If two characters are into each other but tentative about actually starting a relationship, that's one thing. I think hesitations around deciding to acknowledge feelings and doing something about that are normal.

But to bet a confession on a made-up milestone is using an external source to blame for your internal conflict. Deal with your inadequacies on your own time--The only thing stopping you from confessing is yourself.
