Oh my god, whats with asia and Hitler swastikas?! And they used a Nazi Swastika for a "living budha" ?! I really wouldnt want to be the author and meet a budhist... unless...
This is chinese manga, chinese hate budhism, so they portray budha as equal to hitler as propaganda? Lmao that's deep.

Massive respect loss for this manga tho. And i hailed this as the shining star of chinese manga for so long as well. Sad.

@AlphaFlow Not really. The swastika symbol is an ancient religious icon in the cultures of Eurasia. It is used as a symbol of divinity and spirituality in Indian religions, including Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. In the Western world, it was a symbol of auspiciousness and good luck until the 1930s when the right-facing tilted form became a feature of Nazi symbolism as an emblem of the Aryan race.

@AlphaFlow the swastika is an ancient religious symbol of divinity and spirituality with many styles and meanings across many cultures.
It has nothing to do with Nazism or the NSDAP which adopted the symbol in 1935. Their swastika is also inverted and slightly tilted compared to this one and it's "a symbol for the Aryan race", which has nothing to do with religion or China.

edit: lmao didn't refresh and it was already answered, thank you for the TL.

its actually really fun reading ppl talk about swastika = hitler / nazi. human history has been constantly recycling symbols or beliefs from older eras for the current one and it can be a fun subject to study.

Man, I should really use my time machine to tell these guys to stop using such a racist symbol centuries before it becomes associated with a certain German party in the 1940s.

The manji (wanzhi in China) symbol had been used in pretty much all of Asia for centuries. More specifically, in Buddhism the wanzhi has been used to represent the footsteps of Buddha for centuries before some angry German with a shitty mustache culturally appropriated it.

Except it's not really cultural appropriation since a variant on the twisted cross has also been used historically in European cultures, usually to represent lightning. I'm pretty sure he got the symbol from Thor seeing as how he named his rapid strike method of warfare "lightning war" and the "SS" logo was modeled into thunderbolts. I guess that makes Thor the God of Thunder and Racism.

And no, they're not going to change centuries of symbolism just because you get offended. The European front in WW2 is a footnote in Asian education the same way the Japanese war crimes committed in Asia are a footnote in your education.

Edit: I'm not going to change anything before and after this edit, but I realized after posting that I might have been a bit harsh. I understand that for you and where you grew up, the swastika is a symbol of hate and is linked to a massive crime against humanity. All I ask is that you also understand that for us, that connotation does not exist.

Yes, when such symbols are (officially) brought over to western readers they're often changed during the localization process such as with the seal on Neji's forehead (Naruto) and the tsuba on Ichigo's sword (Bleach) because there's that disconnect in viewpoints. I promise you that the absolute last thing on the author's mind while originally drawing those were intolerance and hate.
Edit end.

@Peakfire
Their swastika is also inverted and slightly tilted
This is not entirely true. The right facing swastika is what was used by the Nazis and represents prosperity and luck. The left facing sauwastika represents the tantra (quick generalization, meditation and inner peace...and sex). The one used by Nazis was tilted 45 degrees though.

@highfist
Well how else is he going to let people know that the beliefs and iconography they've held sacred for centuries are offensive and must be changed. He can't just sit down and tolerate such intolerance of his own beliefs.

Damn i got roasted. Thanks for the educational info, had no idea there were symbols so alike. They have such minor differences on first glance i honestly couldn't see it without further looking into it. My bad.
