I prefer the magna here as Rae does a lot of point A to point B here that comes off like a DM railroading. Comes off as not quite so here.

I'm also loving this Thane insight as we never really got a good look as his motivations before. Not to mention actual thoughts by Lulu.

So, to sum up what I think(?) we know at this point:

The Chancellor, who is the church girl's father is corrupt, and has committed adultery and/or infidelity with the first queen of the kingdom, and has links to the 2nd queen (since 2nd queen is also part of the church clique) which would point to the possibility of him actively sabotaging the first queen.
Finance minister, Clair's father is also corrupt, and is in cahoots with the PM. He may have had a hand in bankrupting the house of the leader of the right wing of the resistance, based on the fact that they were the "right hand" of the chancellor, but were left without help when it came to their financial difficulties (if it wasn't 100% forged to begin with).
The King, is either oblivious to all of this, or has let it slide so far, in the name of peace in the kingdom and stability in the royal court, however the strength of the commoner movement, and the blatant corruption of the PM and FM meant he recruited Rae to sort them out (also would help that she would make a perfect scapegoat should things go wrong, since she is just a commoner who can be disposed of much more easily than other royal agents whom I would assume are mostly noble born)

Unless SCFC says otherwise, the king is trying to maneuver against Dole's embezzeling and he suspects Silas is involved. we know actually very little overarching about what hes trying to achieve in the moment with Rae. Hes gambling on Rae, the literal richest person in the kingdom and who just destroyed his current wife's plot will use her impossible capabilities for intelligence gathering to figure out whats happening with the missing taxes. its also possible the King is trying to get Rae to incriminate herself since her giant piles of money from Arms Dealing are the same giant piles of money shes trying to figure out what Dole is doing with them. Meanwhile Rae is putting on a huge theater act.

In SSCC for a commoner there's a whole mini chapter about how Salas goes on about how he's so much smarter than the King and blah blah blah and I'Ausseil just sighs and comments on how he got like this before going "no it's nothing"

The writer could've just carted rei and claire off into the sunset to live a cozy cottegecore life with their adopted children, but instead we're in victorian black lagoon doing some cia shit for the crown. Which is an amazing penalty for rei pretty much being utterly ruthless in her pursuit of claire. I do hope that some of her past decisions come back to haunt her in the future too, not out of spite but it'd be cool.
