I heavily suspect Inky/Blackie is actively messing with him.
Remember when he was looking at Candela's sword?
Completely unprompted, without any customers to scam, Lin went full black text bubble and wanted to "know" what the God that caused Candela's downfall is like.

I mean, it is rather odd how wholesome Inky is to Lin

Going from a world where "only you" had successfully performed an occult ritual when it's known as fantasy and BS to another world kinda would skew your view on the masquerade. I mean in our world what he did was 1 in 6 billion + for as far as he knows. So obviously he would have the same sort of thoughts to this new world... especially if blackie is intentionally keeping the masquerade up for Lin. As we have seen multiple times Blackie will tamper here and there to ensure Lin doesn't suspect the full truth.
As for his motives? I think it's because Blackie is very VERY genre savvy in some regards. Seeing beyond the veil will most likely cause a mind break in Lin. THIS IS NOT A GOOD THING as Lin is far more helpful and capable as a sane con....err "Book store owner" than an insane High Priest of a cult. So yeah Blackie gets this and will hide enough of what's beyond for now to ensure his (IE: blackies) machinations are complete.. in other words? We're talking dying god Mantarok level of scheming (Eternal Darkness: Sanity's requiem) if his machinations are for an evil purpose they are all so very done already xP

My headvoice for Wang is Morgan Freeman's, but since the author is Chinese neither of the two are likely to be the inspiration
