I will say, now that he's had a sliver of truth put in front of him, I have actually really enjoyed his cluelessness. He was a victim of the masquerade placed squarely into the heart of the entire conspiracy and secret world that orchestrated it, and he's just been a puppet of a massive player in the scene who sought fit to make him it's herald. It's one of the few stories of it's kind that has pulled it off really well by never actually making the MC clueless, since he's an active researcher into history and culture, but simply a victim of the information filter
