Imo, the author should have made this a separate series with a different mmc. It feels rather sweet despite the rough start, if not for the fact that this was supposed to be a romcom between childhood friends.

its not even that the twist is bad or like the characters are not acting like they were previously characterized as, but the problem with it is that the first chapter of this fucking shit was 3 pages of shitty romcom plot and then when its actually feeling like its gonna wrap up they do this fucking shit and now I have to read even more of this shit that isn't even the same genre of the first like 15 chapters. its not even like I only read shitting romcoms but this dramatically changing the entire tone for the manga and then doing a flashback for 5 chapters and 2 FUCKING MONTHS OF TIME is honestly such a crazy thing to do and I don't care enough to keep reading this.

Since you seem like you might get this joke, I'll shoot it to you, aherm:

Interesting name for this chap, "Before Dawn". Almost a synonym for Maruwa Tarou's "Before Sunrise".

So when does the "Before Sunset" version come out?

So, she was a virgin... I see what you’re trying to do, author, but it’s not landing. Aside from the edgy chapter 23, this has been pretty lackluster; in other words, quite boring.

Thanks for the chapter!

I also "understand", but that was never certain.
She said that he "tried", and them she ran from home to not let he succeed.
As much as actual rape with penetration on these family situations is common, it's also rape without penetration. Specially in the beginning with the dude poking around to see with what he can get away with, so it's believable that she was still a virgin.

That still doesn't change the fact that those events are mostly inconsequential to the actual plot that is happening in the present. We all get that they have history, and we all know where this flashback is going - the question is who breaks up with who, my bet is that she will leave "because she's not good for him". It's kinda boring because we know where it's going, and nothing will change that.

The only plotline that is dynamic is the present. I want to see the car crash, that the aftermath of the school festival will be.
How is it inconsequential? The flashback needs to happen to develop Yu and Ayami's dynamic. Have you not realized that Ayami is as much a main character as Hikari now? Merely showing how they broke up would not reveal the full extent of their feelings for each other.

Jokes aside, if we somehow ignore the whole romcom-bait stuff, current edgy drama phase is just... Bland? Unrelatable? Even the teenage sex panel with hands is so overused it's simply boring. I remember how vividly yet tender it was shown in Horimiya for example.

Drama is forced and overall plot feels predictable. In all honesty, this flashback is dragged out without any substance, it's just so many wasted pages of really god art by Yom.

I'm not dropping it because from time to time you need to witness a real mess to truly value good writing. But yeah, we will see the drop into low 5s by the looks of it.

Some people are confused by my comment, but what I meant is that the author keeps trying to make Ayami more likeable. By making her a virgin, he's adding a sense of purity to win her some sympathy.

Yeah I really don’t see where they want to go with this. In the present Hikari (supposed fmc since chap 1) is right there, ntr’d before her eyes, by one of her closest friends. Now we have the « dark » backstory of said friend, and we know how much her and mc meant for each other. Now what ? Mc refuse Yami for Hikari ? Or he embraces the ntr to the end ? I don’t really care tbh, when I started this manga I was there for the fluff, I still feel baited, and I still really don’t understand why those 20 first chapters were there in the first place, if they wanted to bring Yami in from the start.

Well I’ll follow until the end, but just for the laught, like rent a gf :haa:

Why would he need to damage control anything? This shit is self-published.

It's just that this story is managing to be worse than the average Honna Wakou slop without the part that makes those readable.
Oh right this is self-published, I forgot. Which now that I think about it, makes me wonder.

Will this get a new "serialized" version later on at some point?

A serialized redo of this could be useful to fix some of the issues with Yami.

Give her more development time in the beginning before the reveal, give some sprinkles of the darkness lurking beneath the surface of the story, etc.
