I'm genuinely curious as to what made them break up their relationship as we see they're really into each other.
  • Was it Yami not being honest with Yuu?
  • Did Yuu realize he thought he loved her but realize Hikari was the one for him?
  • Or is going to be something stupid that will make the rating of this manga go even lower?
Regardless, I wonder how much longer this arc will last. Thanks for the translations.
Well, we saw that Yami takes action without consulting others first or thinking about the consequences of her actions might have on others than the ones she thinks will happen. So, assuming chapter 11 is when she finally realizes Hikari's crush Ta~kun and Yuu were the same person, she could have done lots of things to break away from Yuu, of course, given what happens in chapter 21, we all know that Yami was either half-hearted in her attempt or regretted it immediately.

Honestly, i like where this is going a lot better than the earlier normal romcom part, makes it more interesting. People complained about how author decided to ruin the series on Twitter but that's what makes me starts reading it in the first place xD

Agree these backstory adds more to the character and helps once we jump back into the current timeline.

Honestly, the format and the story doesn't work well with each other. There should've been more pages on each chapter. Reading this weekly is not pleasant at all. It works before because it's a short, cute story.
If the format makes an unpleasant story unpleasant to read, is that not a meta commentary itself? Before, yes, it was a cute and simple story. Now, it's a complicated and painful one. Setting it up as such and continuing on with the same format is in that way a bold creative choice. I gotta say, I'm "enjoying" it as-is. It's like a shock treatment to the pure childhood friend narrative, taking it to new and less morally simple places. Relationships are not so simple, and humans (girls) are not so one-dimensional. Love is complicated business, or more accurately, finding love is.

there was that chapter where they stayed in one of those houses, it could indicate that they never separated

Seeing the amount of 1 Star ratings is so sad...
This is a reminder that the MC isn't even dating his childhood friend (not here neither in the present) and that people can have multiple relationships in their lifetimes.

People complaining that Aya befriended Hikari knowing she was the one Yuu like but she clearly says she stopped asking about her so she had no idea and in the chapter she kissed Yuu she was clearly emotionally confused as she both and to keep Hikari as a friend and also get together again with Yuu.
Its obvious both Yuu and Aya were in love with eachother from this flashback chapters, they probably broke up for reasons of higher power (probably Aya's family situation).

Honestly? From what was shown Aya did more for Yuu than Hikari did (supporting him when he was down)
Also also and this might be a bit contreversial but rereading the manga... I dont think Yuu actually like Hikari anymore. The first date they went on wasnt a real date, when asked if he had found a girl he liked from a kouhai he said "She's not exactly new... She's someone I met before you and someone i've been liking since way before I got to know you" - which fits both Hikari and Aya with the new context. When their friends said "Of course both of you ended up dating" Hikari says Yuu is forcing himself to put on a smile.
This of course can just be my bias viewing of it but that + the fact that he was weird about going to her school (where he would probably see Aya) and the fact that it seem like he was going to say he still liked Aya in the chapter she kissed him makes me think this is going for the Aya route or neither of them.

I normally dont rate mangas before they finish but since the rating can give the wrong impression to new people Im going to do my part and rate it a 10 to combat the undeserving spam of 1 star ratings

I think the technical choices are what's making it an interesting read - like it's fun in a lit class kinda way - but this is depressing as all out, especially knowing it'll end in heartbreak for at least one of the three mains. Like reading it for "what stupid decision will Aya make next?" is definitely an intentional contrast to reading it for "what stupid decision will Hikari make next?"

Hikari didn't even know Yuu was down until he told her months (maybe a year?) later, probably after his relationship w/ Aya was over.

On a serious note, I wonder if Yami calling her mother jealous and clingy will play out later on with her and Yuu. Given how she was with Yuu in chapter 26 in trying to talk about Hikari, I wonder if Yami herself spiraled downward the same way.

there was that chapter where they stayed in one of those houses, it could indicate that they never separated
If you're talking about the stepfather and Yami's mom, they divorce, Yami has her bio dad's last name again.
