He'd also have to go pretty hard to actually have power here.

Stuff like, "I'm a noble," and, "the king put me in charge," doesn't carry a lot of weight if you're in a super remote place that the king doesn't care about. The previous lord probably brought like, soldiers and stuff to enforce his orders.

That's not how this works. Even the most compassionate duke in his position would send the poor dumbass to the gaols and anyone who agreed would go with him until those who would obey remained. Obeying a duke isn't fucking optional, even if he fell out of favor with the court.

Let the people starve, just help (giving actual food) the ones who trust them, like Henry, and let the rest suffer. Best case scenario, they understand their mistakes, own up to them, apologize, and beg for help, on the other hand, if they remain stubborn, create a rumor that the lord can't help the people 'cause they refused and disrespected the lord, divide the commoners, with the one on your side getting the benefits of the fruits and plants, while the other side withers and die due to starvation or some other cause, then make them the scapegoat, make their friends and family turn on them.
Well that would cause a lot of problems down the line, and they could easily revolt if the lord doesn't have any/many men on their side, so this is just an incredibly petty fantasy on my end.
