Sorry, I meant web platform over Java platform.

I believe using web platform reduces the friction for lay user to contribute.

Thank you.

I love the new data saver option. It's helped a lot while waiting for the new servers.
The only suggestion that I have is for how the images get compressed. Most chapters appear to limit the image based on height. That leaves some double pages too small and hard to read.
Would it be possible to base the resizing on the height of the image?
You would also have to set a minimum width to prevent making webtoon pages too small.
I'm not sure how the servers compress the images, so I don't even know if that's possible.

Thanks

I'm wondering if perhaps the issue is also related to what comics are being held in RAM & what are having to be pulled from storage. I'm guessing that frequently accessed comics will be faster to load simply by way of RAM caching.

Out of curiosity, is there a listing for what the servers are actually running hardware wise, like—how much RAM do they have per machine? 🤔 I'm legit serious. If they aren't maxed, then maybe, readers should start a separate fund to max out the RAM on each server such that it speeds load times. 😅😂🤣 That seems like a worthy investment! Yes! Let us increase the system memory! 😅😂🤣

Crazed Hacker Goal: Get the Server to load the entire image database in RAM! 😅😂🤣

Actually, that poses another question: what is the current estimate for the total image database's size at present? Is there a running estimate?

Have you guys considered using an additional CDN?
A fairly cheap one is https://bunnycdn.com and it seems to be among the top 20 fastest CDNs https://www.cdnperf.com/

You can't beat free. Path donates their network and this new distributed system will use volunteers' data.

@sphinxs I don't think pretending is the right word to use if they explicitly name the thing they plan to copy. Sounds like they can copy the client, but would have to write their own server side parts. But I guess that is what the surprised pikachu face is for.

We're adapting the open source client, and writing the backend from scratch. Mangadex@home is nearing the testing stage now.

The reader works fine on iPadOS 13.5 with data saver only when you have no resize and long strip enabled. Otherwise the images either cut off or you get the same one repeated.

My 2 krone: You know what would really help? If the translators didn't insist on saving greyscale images as full colour PNGs. I point it out whenever I see it, but most of them just ignore me.

If bandwidth is an issue, I would like to make a suggestion - resize avatar images after upload by the user. Right now, the website delivers the entire uploaded image as the avatar, even though it's re-sized on the fly to be a tenth of the size by the user's browser.

The idea of hentai@home is awesome. I already have Seti@home running on the cpus and folding@home on the gpus in my rack. Why not use some of the space and bandwith i got.

wouldnt the obvious of restricting over colored uploads help?, likewise the we have to use ddos/left/cloudflare services be an obvious commonsense non use? , u can also allow the user login info to block country of origin so users have less data/filler/spam pop up when they use this site (as socialists chinese raciests supporters its important to not block chinese trans manga/manhua/manwha)

I dont know if this will help but I've noticed that if you put the reader to legacy, the pages load faster. But I think it's because the servers may be moving faster, try it.

It's probably because the new reader has scripts (on your browser) loading images from the server when it feels like it, and only displays them when they're fully loaded (which means there's even more time until you can see them), rather than all the images loading like normal.
The data usage is the same though.

Technically the new reader would "use less data" on average because it doesn't always load every image, but I doubt that has any significant impact.
