Have to agree with all that, but considering how hard-SF the whole thing is I'm amazed it got done as a manga at all, and considering the nature of adaptations in general I'm amazed that the differences are as small as they are.tbh I like the book better than this manga adaption even if that was only a B grade novel (it was Hogan's earliest novel after all). I felt the book made the whole investigation of the corpse more interesting and the reveals about the truth of his origins more intriguing as the onion layers of the mystery got pulled away though out the story. The manga feels more like it jumps straight into the secret conspiracy without that prior build up and making it way more central to events than I recall the novel doing. The novel really was more a mystery box format focused on the scientists conducting the investigations.
