I read Oyasumi Punpun a little less than a year ago. I certainly appreciated the writing and art, but story-wise I just felt absolutely miserable throughout the whole thing. Is it like that for everyone or am I seeing things from the wrong perspective? To elaborate upon my topic, what is your attitude towards series that aren't trying to be entertaining? Do you find enjoyment in stories that are well-executed, even if the content itself is far from "enjoyable"?. If you do, I'd love to hear your thoughts behind why that is.

Hope I formulated my question correctly ^^;

I tried re-reading it recently and I felt my heart being crushed to pieces.

There is value in a story that tells a perspective outside one's own, regardless of whether you agree with it or not. It's also "enjoyable" to be moved or feel different emotions based on a story. I find a lot of catharsis reading something sad.

Actually, what I really like about comics as a medium is the flexibility for a story to dip into magical realism, or even turn surreal, in order to convey a feeling or to set the tone of a work. (I even enjoy this experience even if a work isn't very good.)
