tbh @sterben I actually am still wondering. Right now its 4 am and i havent get to bed yet, so in America time you must be at home from your 8 - 5 job, but let me tell you something. most of GFG are gone, not gone probably wanking with defualtbros, since thats the way to cope with current general. I still use board for my daily faggot too since its too boring here, and like brapedude08 says, its not 4chan.

Point is nothing. kinda want to talk about gain more skill, but procasination won't do it. It feels like, half of my brain being Screen_Shot_08-08-23_at_05.03_PM.PNG which is ironic given the current situation of my life.

However you no need to read yuri to feel the yuri, because it find some ways to affect you with the current meta. Even your favorite tag such as vanilla can be tainted by yuri, because yuri is the purest form of love and vanilla is the purest form of innocent. I dont know what Im talking about, but you get the gist.EOgqCp4XkAAGSXr.jpg

I just want to get ajob because some of the job are blown.

Yuri is non-existent because they get bbQ'd in the end. See what happened to Happy Sugar Life.

One thing in this thread that is everyone either love it or hate it

Is there someone in between?
No one has actually said they love it, I for instance just said "don't force yourself to read it". Bakedbanana for instance reads it like any other genre but doesn't think anything special about it. Same as other people, but the thread was purposely done to rant about it.

ot makes people forget what actual gay ppl are like irl (not that it's a bad thing) from what I've seen.

also always found the guys who say they read that stuff extremely weird.

but also I guess I shouldn't say too many bad things about it before someone reports my posts as homophobic or whatev
I take all of these observations as compliments.:02: I think this is a fair description of Yuri readers.

Is Yuri overrated? Probably a bit. I used to enjoy Yuri, but my thoughts have shifted over time. This might be due to overexposure and the genre’s newfound popularity in recent years. I believe Old-school Yuri was quite different from what I get to see now. Back then, the focus was often on subtle, emotional storytelling and genuine character development. Works like Maria-sama ga Miteru handled relationships with depth, exploring themes of unspoken love, societal pressure, and personal growth.

In contrast, modern Yuri often caters more to fan service than strong narratives. While this isn’t necessarily bad, I feel like many recent works prioritize aesthetics and appeal over telling meaningful stories. I feel like this trend has led to characters falling into repetitive tropes, which is another reason for my loss of interest. It’s not that I dislike tropes, they can be comforting and familiar, but lately, they feel more like a lazy excuse to slap on a personality rather than developing characters thoughtfully. You often see the same archetypes: the shy girl, the cool senpai, or the clumsy protagonist. This formulaic approach doesn't really connect me with the characters.

I like Yuri, I still read some but do I like it as I used to? No. Well, this is my thoughts in the end.

There were also bad series before, being more popular now the amount of works just increases and there are plenty of authors that write yuri because it sells, so you can't expect anything good from those. Nowadays bad yuri series are basically written by male authors to appeal male readers that want the yuri ecchi equivalent from romcoms, not to mention all those 4-koma comedy ones that don't add anything new but for some reason are liked by Japanese readers that want some repetitive humour. And unlike other genres, the author saying "this is a yuri series" or just adding the tag on social networks is enough to qualify as yuri (even if they have nothing to do with it). So let's say it's simply flooded with nowadays worthless works like shonen and isekai do (to the point series that try being original or deviate from the usual stuff are normally axed instead).

I honestly agree (at least somewhat) to the point that "it makes people forget how gay people are irl"

A lot of the yuri you might see passing around on mangadex is made for fetish reasons, kind of like how yaoi works for some fujoshis, but in this case, for guys who fetishize lesbians

And because of that you tend to see highly fantasized and inaccurate ways that lesbians are portrayed, or just relationships in general since the average gooner mangaka making those probably has never been in one

But its the representation we get, I tend to avoid some of those more fetishy ones and you can find really good stuff if you look for authors that actually care, doesnt have to be lesbian authors, ive seen some great yuri made by straight guys and straight girls, mostly just depends on the target audience and the type of person the author is.

Id say its a little underrated but not because we see little of it, we dont theres a bunch of it its all I talk about here, but because a lot of yuri is made for fetish reasons (like how I said in my previous post) and they dont actually see it as a proper genre of romance manga.

So if people stopped seeing it as just another pornhub tag and tried looking at it from a story writing perspective, yuri has more potential than what is shown even if you see a lot of it. Its why I dont limit myself to just yuri, I also enjoy some valid bit of yaoi (which Id like some recommendations of) and other manga thats not just gay romance

Exactly!
Whether its yuri or yaoi, most of it is consumed to satisfy fetishes.
But its never seen the same way you would a straight romance.

If we're talking about realistic relationship representations forget about genres, less than a 1% manage to do that... and I don't obsess over it, my favourite series are precisely out of ordinary at least. And well, when people take it seriously on the forums it becomes a grotesque circus and specially for those that think they are the characters themselves (but again, all the genres have those). I guess Japanese folks are not the only ones that find human relationships outworldly, that's why certain forum sections become more bizarre than many series.

I don't understand where "overrated" is yuri, first at all. It's a genre that, if we look back, is a rather niche genre compared to what is popularly consumed. Years ago people barely caught Bloom Into You, which was the one that stood out the most because it was the most current Yuri adaptation at the time, although perhaps lately more adaptations are being announced like the ones coming next year.
