I wonder if Japan still having a fair number of people participating in omiai - arranged marriages, also factors into how the story is being written. From my standpoint it's a bit strange she doesn't just wing it and say "No", but if I factor in her not wanting to bring harm to her adoptive parents and the idea of omiai's still being a thing. Maybe it's not such a strange thing to agonise over after all.

lol did i missed something? is she not allowed to refuse the marriage? pls tell me that even as an adopted child of the Marquis, she's still obligated to do her duty? and Marquis is actually a piece of shit for not asking her opinion on the matter? pls tell me dats the case cu somehow i got a feeling that i missed an important part of this whole drama.. like clearly all of us hv the unanimous call to reject the marriage but somehow that is not even an option to mc? seriously wot?

@OmegaDragon I was thinking the same lately... this marriage plot bring nothing but pointless and empty angst and isn't even clear what her prospects really are. The author just throw it and didn't develop at all so it does feel like we're missing a chunk of the plot.

@OmegaDragon @beazacha depend on the perspective, if we see about nobleman era (or older era), it is normal to have a fiancee when you are very young, adobted children or not, and Risa already on a marriable age. Not to mention there is an age limit for a girl too, like in Otoyomegatari, a girl feels very lucky to find a husband when she is already 20 (20 year already considered too old, so she expect not to marry at all) even though her husband is a 10 year old boy. So I think what Marquis do isnt out of malice, but out of concern.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention, on that time there is a stigma when a girl failed to marry too, and it bring shame to the person and to their family.

I really hope they don't drag this royal engagement plot point out for long. It's much better from a political standpoint to subtly hint that Risa isn't interested NOW, before an official proposal is issued and especially before she's formally introduced as the prince's fiance. Honestly I agree with other commenters that the proposal doesn't make sense to begin with - Risa isn't trained in politics and statecraft at all! All that stuff would fall on the prince turned king! Like holy shit why would you want someone that inexperienced as your queen, even if she has 'a fresh perspective' given that she's from another world... I'd maybe understand if there were feelings involved, but they've barely met. Like, what's the motivation behind this even...

@beazacha ikr!
@Nunally ok, it's understandable that the Marquis did it for her own good.. but usually there's the part where they would ask their kid, "how do you think about it?" but nope nothing nada nein not even an explanation on why she's the one.. it's like "this is your marriage partner, the prince of dis country. so u gonna be a princess soon and regarding your shop, lol who cares" lol wut? that's y i was wondering if we missed something.. out of nowhere, the Marquis who let her adopted daughter go independent by opening a cafe and knew how good she it at doing it, just come by and tell her to drop that shit and get married to a prince? they better not say, "oh maybe she can be the first princess than opened a cafe" cuz hell no it's gonna happen.. point it it wasn't explain to us why she couldn't say no.. it's just us speculating 😂😂😂

@Asean the problem is that she was legally adopted by the marquess couple, as she took their last name, moreover, if I'm not mistaken they didn't have an heir before adopting her which make her the marquess household heiress. In nobility if the royal family ask formally for your household heir to be married to them, you can't refuse without big consequences, I don't remember whether the royal family knows that she's from another world, but she's bound by their laws the moment she agreed to be adopted, if she were a commoner it would be easier as the royal family wouldn't even try to get her to marry her into royalty.

@OmegaDragon I think the prince just show interest and still not propose officially, so she still not have direct relationship with the prince, but because he is a prince, just him showing an interest is enough to flame all the nobles (and wild rumor too), especially if he is a crown prince.
Its kinda like when a popular boyband officially said (in interview) that he is close to a girl, their fans will be: whaaattt? Who is the giirll? is she good enough for him? As a loyal fans we will judge heerrr! We need to know more about herrr.
Where it is actually its his own choice and private matter.
Thats what happen to her.

@Nunally then why is she acting like it's the end of the world? now I'm more confused 😂😂😂😂😂😂 if she really cares about reputation, then she, who is now a noble lady, shouldn't really doing her cafe right now.. alone with a former knight most of the time in the kitchen, should invite scandals imo
