The anime fell apart. It's like the studio ran out of time and money, so they just rushed a bunch of crap. I can't even remember the number of times they didn't animate the person talking, or would just have dialog over a nature shot without any people at all.

Yeah... It was an adaptation of a teenagers impressions of the cliff notes of a hand-copied-from-memory version of the novel... The story itself has far more to offer an anime adaptation than that travesty, which is a shame. I feel like instead of making it good, they tried to cram far too much into a single season. Even if you only get one season, don't just sh*t the bed like that.
