FFS all this time I thought the king was quite "kind" to gave him a place to live (although it was practically abandoned). when in truth that place is problematic and it wasn't even in the country's jurisdiction. I bet his promise to return MC home is also bullshit. MC should bring the lollies then abandon that place and immigrate to another country

Well, if it follows the standard, 1 that world currency = 1 yen, then it would be about $91,000 USD. Not as much as it seems in terms of property debt, but more than enough to be a significant issue. Especially because it seems this orphanage isnt a non-for-proffit organization with significant government backing. So money will be an issue since income is almost nonexistant from an orphanage.

Basically the king is a asshole for establishing this kind of setup. However, these guys are not necessarily in the wrong though. The do have a contract which entitles them to collect debt on the buisness. MC is not the one who should be paying it, but because he is the current active director (albeit not apparently by a contract standpoint) he has a responsibility to pay it. It is not fair to either party. The collectors at least are willing to make a deal with him to help him out somewhat.

There's really nothing of note in the orphanage. They only brought the matter of the debt up and threatened to repossess the land so they can get the S-rank candidate to do a quest for them. Extension on the debt is just a formality and for all we know, it could be delayed indefinitely - the orphanage probably isn't worth 10 million. The orphanage is might be worth more as collateral.

But, MC can have the upper hand later on if he happens to make extra potions. That old man was buying up all the potions everywhere, so MC would be guaranteed a bulk sale.
