I dont remember there being a noble stipend mentioned in the manga, except when Lola mentioned her stipend which I thought was basically military pension instead of nobility wage

No, Sawadi's mom is a lower ranked noble and mage, after having the kid she just left, she lives in the Royal Capitol now off the alimony, the Schenkers didn't get a noble title through her, just the MC's magic and the right to go to magic college.

Reality is stranger than fiction. a 15th century illiterate guard would still bow when shown the coat of arm from a grand duchy or the King regardless if they were present or not lol. Even the mention of the Kings name are not to be spoken lightly by the average peasant or they'll be put on a pillory.
