Don't worry about mtl, it's not the mtl itself people hate, it's unedited, unintelligible mtls.
I've seen several people doing mtls, and then editing them to be in proper english sentences and they are very well received.
Almost no one really cares about the true original meaning, as long as they understand what's going on in the book.
