That's just because the scene happens at the right moment for the girl. Or to be exact, the exact moment that some strange kindness would click into place for her. It's not like Nicholas there just controls what Eleanora started thinking before she came to Nobu. And it's not like this is their first interaction ever.
If you just use the standard of special situations to judge (which every story-telling is), you will end up with nothing but "sure, this happens all the time, sheesh" kind of moments.
