It took me a bit, but I think I figured out an underlying logic to trying to tax adventurers other than the complete idiocy it probably is. The idea is that by increasing the taxes per level they’re forcing the adventurers to grind deeper floors more appropriate to their level. A medium to high level adventurer won’t be able to coast by taking on easier floors because the taxes are taking too much and can’t clog the lower floors for the adventuring grind pipeline to take advantage of how much better Japan is doing at resource mining right now. They get to black company their way into more stuff while double dipping in taking the profits away from adventurers.

I’m sure everyone else in this thread has pointed out all of the flaws that would/will utterly break this plan alongside the increased danger from forcing people to dig deeper and take more risks than they feel comfortable with.
Could be that this is a valid explanation, but regardless, you get more people interested in doing this adventuring stuff, supporting the economy and the society with resources, by giving them incentives. The way the fictive US president explained their system here in this chapter sounds much more reasonable (for once, "the US" and "reasonable" are not something I tend to use often in one sentence nowadays).

Giving people incentives instead of forcing them to do something is often the better approach, unless there's no other alternative and Japan definitely has this.

Unusual for a Manga to make Japan look bad and the USA seem like the more reasonable Gov. Thinking about it though the Auth just needs to make an excuse to add the new girl to the harem so Harem > National pride.

This story feels like its gotten so messy... not in terms of its writing, just the scenarios that are at play. This whole power level thing is stupid; honestly I'm still annoyed that he thought that was a good idea, but whatever, he still thinking like in the isekai world. I applaud the writer for making his actions have a more worldly, societal, and economical impact, but the way he is way out of his scope makes this not as enjoyable a story anymore for me. I liked it when it was just about a guy making dungeon videos and keeping his identity a secret from practically everyone(the principle, his secretary, and Kijima are cool though).

The US way has it’s own drawbacks since it’s going to overcrowd the lower levels in a gold rush and adventuring is too new to have much regulations.
The US and other developed countries generally don’t have economies based on raw manufacturing and what industries they do have for that are critical for national security. Look at all the troubles the US is having at it’s own food stability thanks to ICE right now and toss in a similar situation caused by a competing industry that has easier work and the benefit of becoming superhuman. Their military no longer has desperate poor people to recruit because the poor people can do the same fighting with more benefits. Who would honestly work retail when they could just adventure for a few hours? The plummeting raw materials prices for lower levels is gonna be it’s own issue from oversaturation but that part is really inevitable since there are plenty of other countries with the raw manpower to cause that same trouble worldwide on their own. Inflation is going to skyrocket even faster than they are currently as they try to squeeze the nouveau rich adventurers for money. There does need to be something to limit the ratio of adventurers compared to any other profession and going all in is a recipie for civil unrest.

If the US does succeed in Zerg rushing dungeons like that there are going to a a whole bunch of casualties.

I’m also extremely wary of the fact that he’s trying to get his daughter powerleveled. By giving her the raw power to destroy anyone in her way the US president is laying the foundation for a monarchy If/when the current system collapses.

I suppose that's a passable reason.

But then they could've taxed low level loot based on the seller's level, even if it spawned a scalp/black market. It'd still be better than this travesty lmao.

In the first place, the free market doesn't price products and salary based on difficulty, so using money to control the rate of progression is 80% doomed from the start.

It's killing me how this manga has been only averaging like 14 pages a month these days. It was already slow but now it's at a rate of like one volume a year, isn't it?

I switched and read a bit of the novel the other day, but it's just not the same reading a story like this with blunt dialogue and straightforward plot developments if it doesn't have any visuals in the form of cute girls and expressive faces.

It’s just the government version of that crooked banker who demanded free money out of jealousy and twisted entitlement.

Imagine threatening someone who kills disaster-level monsters every day…

Fair points, to be honest, but it was the middle of the night for me and I was too tired to think too much.

So, while it is for sure a better system to motivate people to go adventuring, if everyone and their grandmother go, it will swamp the market with resources and prices will drop, so yeah, the opposite issue... Probably the best way is a way somewhere between these two ways as you point out, something like a test you need to pass to get an adventurer's license before you are allowed to enter dungeons but once you get there, you have a good life. Something like that.

Zerg rushing is not so unthinkable for the US as for, let's say, European countries, to be honest, but yeah, being too greedy would lead to avoidable casualties, that's sure.

The monarchy thing is a good point, it's entirely possible that this is the endgoal of the US president (speaking of the fictive one, for the real one, well, there it is an open secret).

Anyway, I read in a comment under a previous chapter that the Japanese government might have intentionally decided on this tax stuff. so let's see if this is true and how it will turn out. The way how the MC is already thinking of going somewhere else to life gives us an idea, I'd say.
