This is why I'm such a strong proponent of scanslation even if there is an official translation - because now with everything being published digitally, it makes it easy to region-lock titles. (That, and also MTL in official translations. Pay for that shit? Like, no thanks, if I'm that desperate I'll just use Google Lens, kthxbye.)

Wait, if there's MTL in the official translations... I guess they really do want to go out of business by encouraging piracy.

I'd pay for a good translation, but anyone can MTL with the right tools (there are some good ones). Buy the Japanese, then self-MTL and cut out the middle-robot.

Also, have they not looked at the anime streaming services nearly going bankrupt and all ending up under one of two publishers, and even those are questionable? And region-locking translations? They're just going to prevent new customers, not keep pirates at bay (no pun intended).
