@Karme Sorry for the tag to a super old comment, but you normally have interesting things to point out, so I figured.
I agree with you, kinda sorta. Manpower is good. But they mostly raised valid points. Even if "my parents abandoned me" is mostly emotional, it may suggest a disposition to "betrayal" when things go south. Not good for the village. Plus the possibilities of spies, too.

And you mentioned food. But I mean, pop is 70. They are producing a surplus, but we don't know how much. 30 more people is an almost 50% jump in pop overnight. Even if they have some reserves, production probably can't cover that. And ofc taxes, as you mentioned.

Idk. Like you said, "simply" turning them away may be...unintelligent. But "simply" taking them in might be equally stupid.

Don't really like the thought of him leaving them behind with 30 strangers. He's the powerhouse of the group. What are they gonna do if there's assholes among them?
