Almus doesn't know Rigar's character, neither the King nor his adoptive father have bothered to tell him that the dude is a straight-up garbage human being. That's the inherent issue. Almus sees the good in people, so he's blind to the dude's treachery. If Almus knew that Yuria's life was in danger from simply being engaged to the dude, Almus would have cleaved him in two the moment he laid eyes on him at the Harvest Festival.

I'm also a little confused as to why no-one has acted on the intel of Rigar colluding with the Usurper King to overthrow Yuria's father? The general that Almus captured from the siege of his village was present at the war council where that info was disclosed...

Tl;Dr: Rigar is already living on borrowed time, he just doesn't know it yet.

So many wrong things in this chapter, as a person with knowledge from our world the though of a ruler doing what he wants shoud be put off his mind

If he dont put up ways to limit rulers powers like or democracies have, I'll be mad
And i dont even like democracies, I'm a libertarian

Not really. He has lived quite a time in this world. Certain ideals are not going to work. The world is run a certain, accepted way. Massively changing things could just destroy more than it could protect. The saying "when in Rome" applies here. He may know of a different way, but if he were to go and force this on others who do not, they may just reject it. Weakening his own power in this world is equivalent to allowing yourself to be conquered/ over thrown. You may live by your rules, but others won't always follow. And if your rules make you an easy target, it isn't going to work out in the long run. Especially if you go and make a ton of enemies by trying to limit their power too much.

in this kind of scenario it is true.
as the ruler, you are the one who makes the rules. no one can judge you if you abide by said rules or not.

(try to imagine the middle age, kings made the rules and the comon people had to follow them. they might get killed for breaking the rules, but no one could judge over the king. only rebelions or a lost war could stop him)

@halloween20 "a government is just a body of people who are most notably ungoverned"
"as the ruler, you are the one who makes the rules. " True. You are not a ruler if you aren't making or enforcing rules.
"no one can judge you if you abide by said rules or not. " Well yes but actually no. You can still be a hypocrite even if you make the rules. Kinda why it's important to have a system of checks against power in any government to enforce rules internally. But you're right that in a monarchy the only check against a corrupt king would be open revolt or someone close turning you into a Cesar salad.

yeah in anything but a monarchy (or dictatorship...) that wont work. at least it would be way harder to break the rules and don't get punished for it...

this story plays in a monarchy driven world so MC could establish rules and give a fuck on them. but that is why such monarchs end on a scaffold

The Griffon is wrong about one thing at least: It is best for a ruler to fit into the herd rather than standing out... as it is best for the ruled not to understand nor want to understand how they are being ruled at all.

The Griffin is easily the most woke character in this series, that's why I love him.
