@jonsmith I’m pretty sure the background story on that guy isn’t in the WN.

I’m reading the Road to Kingdom WN right now and that story actually does happen there, explaining that the guy is depressed after losing his wife (and daughter) and traveling to a new feudal lord’s territory. Kinda feel like Isekai Kenkokuchi nabbed that story from Road to Kingdom (pretty sure it’s older)

@AHunter @feha

Just because you "agreed" to being raped, doesn't mean you can just accept it willingly. Also that "resistance" can be anything from just pulling away from Gilbert slightly or not acting like a whore, it's her rapist who's claiming she "resisted", and from what the manga has shown us, all of Dibels retainers are basically scum.

Almus isn't "at fault" for anything no matter what he does. It's completely backwards logic to think he's on the hook for anything. In fact this puts him in the most favorable position he could've dream of considering he planned to take Dibel's betrothed thus originally was to become the root of the eventual war.

When Dibel came, Almus can say yeah they're here, why the fuck are they here? Let's be clear, I'm in no obligation to send them back or don't send them back due to YOU unable to keep them in your territory. I can execute them if I want because they may be your spies that you're trying to exfiltrate. The audacity of you to come DEMAND anything from me at all, you should be apologizing and bring offerings for inconveniencing me and my people due to you not knowing how to run your own country. If I catch one more person crossing illegally then we're going to war because clearly you aren't fit to be a ruler when you can't keep your citizen happily nor unhappily within your border that it becomes my daily problem. You don't see any of my refugees showing at your door. Perhaps after I dispose of you and rule both lands everyone will be better off. By the way I'll be taking Yuria too (that's totally off the cuff, and I wasn't planning on doing this from the get go and cashing in on this opportunity to both get the girl while remaining the good guy).

Bring this matter to the king if have to, Almus has all the power right now. If Almus's people snuck off to Dibel's territory he'd be rightfully on Almus's ass. Not the other way around.

@Lightbrand if it were ONLY a fight between Almus and Dibel, you'd be right. BUT Almus is now ultimately aiming to be the next king, since he's marrying the princess, which means he can't just beat the cruel and cowardly Dibel into his place as doing so might drag other nobles into the mess and create a full blown civil war, or at the very least the other nobles he'll have to rule over will be afraid he might do the same to them without reason one day. Almus NEEDS to have justification for conflicts with Dibel, which is why he couldn't just march forth and invade Dibel's land first even if he'd be doing it to protect the fleeing citizens of Dibel's territory. that said, it may have been by accident, but now Dibel's men have attacked Almus's troops, so now he can "justify" it by pointing out he only brought his men in response to Dibel's army marching on his border, and only attacked after Dibel's men did first. It might sound stupid if you only look at it as OP MC holding back, but it's warring era politics, so it's necessary in the long run.
as for your idea of Almus using the current king's authority to help curb stomp Dibel, remember that while the king might not have liked it, Dibel was a sufficiently major noble that the old plan was to have HIM marry the princess. also the overall power of other nobles vastly outweighs that which the king holds, remember historically kings have a higher degree of *authority* compared to other nobles, but they rarely had that much more land or wealth than any other particular noble, so, if other nobles group up against them, the king's authority means a lot less or potentially even nothing at all...and some of those other nobles are even on good terms with Dibel in spite of his nature, so they'd be faster to speak up on his behalf over the "citizens of Dibel's land" being "stolen" by Almus (again, it's kinda warring era rules, if you are a peasant you can't just up and move wherever you like without permission from your lord, no matter how much of a sack of crap your lord may be...or rather all the more so if your lord IS a sack of crap you want to flee from)
