So the storyteller is using the ever so contrived justification that the arrow almost hit Almus to start the war.
Whereas I pointed out the justification already presented itself in the form of the unmitigated refugee crisis. If any country, if Almus's people just fled his land (perhaps on his order, or not, nobody can ever know for sure) and started invading other noble's territory, and upsetting/unsettling their locals populace due to this influx of foreiners. You don't think that's enough reason for the rulers affected to start shit with Almus? You don't think they'd use that perfectly valid excuse to invade Almus's territory if given the condition that Almus must curb his people from entering other's territory but he couldn't or was unable to comply?
I repeat one more time, Almus already made up his mind on claiming Yuria. If Dibel had done NOTHING, Almus would have been the wife-stealer who will eventually start (the equivalent to the Trojan) war where every noble will rally behind Dibel who lost his betrothed to some fucking guy that just showed up one day and killed Fermes. But due to this refugee crisis affecting Almus's territory, stemming from Dibel's incompetence, or cruelty. Almus has all the reason to put a stop to it if Dibel can't. Because having your people just illegally entering other people's land is NOT OKAY in any civilization. What noble can support Dibel in this? If they support Dibel's refugee running amok then Almus can just send his people everywhere posing as refugees, causing headache for everyone else and nobody can say shit. Dibel's refugee issue is ALL Almus need to checkmate Dibel that nobody else can reasonably defend Dibel, there 's no need for a physical arrow to almost land where he happens to be standing to justify anything. If anything the other nobles can argue Almus put himself in harms way for that arrow when he could've just stayed in bed that morning. Whereas somebody has to deal with refugees entering your land.
The fact that given ALL that, Dibel has the balls to go to Almus's territory to demand ANYTHING is moronic from the storyteller perspective. Imagine Almus's people snuck to Dibel's territory and Almus shows up at Dibel's front door and demanding shit. Dibel will tell him to get lost or demand recompense.
