Because it says so in the story

@firosahoge
"Nothing immoral about following the laws"
That was literally the same excuse guards at Treblinka and Auschwitz used at the Nuremberg trials. It was also the same excuse people used to ignore the slave hunters brutal treatment of escaped slaves in the Northern States before the Civil War.
Evil is evil whether it's legal or not, and profiting off of selling a human being because of a stolen du-rag is pure evil.

@Northern well I see your point, but arguing from a stance that evil is evil is assuming that there are universal moral standards. Personally, I believe there are universal moral standards, but there are many who believe in moral relativism.

In any case, you're assuming that the treatment of slaves is brutal, it may not be so. There may even be some worlds/countries where thieves are just executed on the spot so slavery is generous in comparison. Even in our world, there are some countries where thieves have their hand cut off on the spot. He's adapting to the world he's living in, and slavery as a punishment for stealing is their law. He just arrived in this world so he's not going to try to change society's norms because of a vague moral concept.

I personally believe that moral relativism is a fallacy that is used to excuse all kinds of barbarity. I believe that people instinctively know right from wrong, and that the distinction is biologically ingrained. Unless the person is a psychopath, basic altruism and fairness are evolutionary natural states in humans that require intense cultural, tribal and/or ideological suppression to be overwritten.

In your second paragraph, you're attempting to justify slavery to me. I'm afraid you're making an argument that I'm unwilling to even entertain the basic premise of as moral or logical. Particularly for something so frivolous as minor theft. So it's pointless to continue debating.

@Northern I agree with you, but when you assume universal moral standards, you have to also think about what decides what the universal moral standards are in the first place. Then again, who has the right to decide?

Anyway, as for justifying slavery, as long as there's a way to become free eventually it's fine. I would say slavery for life or inherited slavery is evil. But here in this situation, where he's new to the world, do you expect him to start combating the world's norms and laws from the get go? He doesn't even have a place to stay at the moment. Also, it's unknown whether slaves become slaves for life or have to serve a sentence similar to a jail sentence.

@Northern yeah i looked that character up, just a thief and nothing more.

I also have to ask.......you realize this is just one of many crappy isekai manga right?
You're not really bringing your morale code into this world made-up by some 30+ year old man right.....?

Jesus Christ.....

Every time I come back to a manga on this site I can't remember most of the names of characters. Now people are discussing moral relativism over porn isekai? Honestly, I imagine people come here for the art(porn in this case) and world building, not for the self insert character. Nobody really takes that seriously or cares at this point.

Also, why did you respond to a comment 2 months later?

Anyway most of the popular manga out there seems to have some crazy protagonist like this. The plot seems to favor them no matter what choices they make (they just have no real consequences). Just read it for the art and world and you'll be fine.

Peace

Some morals are universal, and only sociopaths and devils excuse their violation. You can write a scenario dispassionately, not making a judgment calls, but here there's tacit approval. And I realize from reading your responses now that you're into that. You're the kind of guy that dubs themselves "psycho" and tugs to eroguro, huh.

Uhh, you don't speak for everyone, and you don't get to decide what we talk about. Were you hoping we'd be talking about rape instead of morality?

Also, why did you respond to a comment 2 months later?

Yeah, I don't live on the site, and didn't realize that there was an official Comment Time Limit. Hey! This comment is three months later! Is this illegal? Am I breaking a law?

Well that's a patronizing and irrelevant little homily to wind up your rant with.

Peace
Hahaha... from you? The kid without a soul? Oh wow.

Yes, you are! You will be sold into slavery as a punishment!

Edit: Btw, PsychoJing won't notice your post because you mistyped his nick, inserting an extra "h" in the middle of it.

Morals are ingrained in us on a biological level? I'm gonna need to keep that idea in mind for if I ever go out trollin' somewhere that's discussing this kind of stuff. That's some spicy bait.
