Yeah. Most of the time they might offer a token resistance towards it, but it never seems consistent. It's always to keep that safe level of not being able to betray the MC since the possibility of that might offend some sensitive readers. Or some BS like that.

Here he's portrayed as not being particularly trusting, but still consistently resists her being a slave. It's more that she's the one who seems to cling to it to ensure her own connection to him. But she's still rather insolent for a slave. Which is perfectly fine for what he wants.

Nice choices for Maria skills. Firefly is like a fire blast, Impulse is shockwave. Both can be used for defense and offense.

Man, how hard is it to explain that you're from a different world, needed help but couldn't trust most people, and that you're willing to shift/change it from slavery to above indentured servitude. Or, you look like family, I'm intending to treat you as such, and I'll over-level you so when I'm gone you're not struggling.

The contriveness of isekai does get annoying with the tropes they follow for no other reason than the popular ones did it, and while I enjoying this, it's annoying when characters just keep chewing on fat instead of getting to the meat.

You're right, he should at VERY least reveal that he's isekai to few closest to him. Then Maria would be more helpful seeing how knowledgeable and smart she is.
