Well. it's basically one of zombie, ghost, possesion troupe. you knows your relative is already long gone but deep inside, you wished to save them so when the thing begged or "Wait!, it's me" with their face, you hestitated.

I said "you" as in character in those story btw, cuz some people have those "better end their misery" mindset so they probably won't hesitate in this scenario.

Even if it was her real relative, she should have still killed the thing, considering how many people the shapeshifter had murdered and how much trouble it had caused. Although if a shapeshifter was her relative, wouldn't that make her a shapeshifter as well?

I've never tried that tactic before on my DnD sessions so I wonder how it works. When do I tell the DM that I silently added poison to my friend's weapon before they set off on their individual quest?

It's not a good trait to stop when your enemy asks you to stop. It's about as bad as believing everything your enemy tells you.
'Why isn't this character infallible' would you kill whoever you care about without hesitation just because you knew they were a body double?
Just killing someone at all goes against most people's way of living. Looking like that, and pleading sounds even harder.

She has a good alignment for a reason, she's not the type to cut someone down while they're pleading even if they didn't look like someone she cared about, I'm sure.

It's not someone, in the first place. It's something. And she's in the middle of fighting that thing.

What you are asking is if it could be easy to kill someone immediately without that prior personal verification. Like if someone, no matter how trustworthy, told you that your good friend is in town, yet it isn't actually your good friend but a giant cockroach perfectly wearing your friend's skin and even sounding like your friend when talking. Would you then immediately pull the trigger? No, that would be difficult, no matter how much you trusted the source, especially if you didn't know for sure that your friend couldn't possibly be in town. However, if you went to greet that friend/supposed monster and things turned really sour, then why not? It's not your friend and now you'd know it for sure. In fact you'd know the bug has killed your friend and is wearing his/her skin.

hmmm, the issues more that it's a combat situation. There isn't time to process everything before you react. You know it's not them consciously, but your subconscious is probably going to be the first thing to react in that situation and its reaction is built on the interactions you had prior with the person you're 'seeing'. He was banking on that dissonance to create just a second of confusion for an opening. Her knowing it's not them won't stop it.

Feels a bit like an asspull, but it was well written.
To be fair, MC is a bit of an ass. And at least it's entirely appropriate for his character.

'Why isn't this character infallible'
That sums up what I think of a lot of complaints about why characters make mistakes. Sometimes people just fuck up. Sometimes they hesitate. Sometimes they choose the less optimal choice. It happens. It's human. Deal.

Sometimes readers just like to complain. Sometimes they go overboard. Sometimes they choose to complain even if it doesn't really annoy them all that much. It happens. It's human. Deal.

Well, as my first sentence said, it's one of most famous troupe.

Like ,I can't kill this zombie cuz it was my parents/child/lover/family yada yada so I locked them up instead of killed it and potentialy make other survivors die later.

or dying light(game) 's zombie called viral will sometimes beg for their life as their human instrict is still there and It got me at first (Crane can fucking one shot them later so they don't have time to beg)

I can't think of possession/ghost example as I don't watch movie anymore but "The things" probably one of them.

It's okay to not like it cuz I also don't like some troupe/writing if it's too much or out of character but I find this one okay. you aren't. that's it.
