With his looks like that, of course, he is getting stressed on how to survive from his blunder. It's lucky for Patience and the family that her father is not alcoholic loser and not abusive, unlike other stories. Also, this world has royalties and standing with royalties is like living on the tip of the blade. One small wrong, you're on the chopping block or noose hang. One ignored order and you're shunned off from the community, just like how Twitter/TikTok people cancel someone in the internet.

Too hard on an adult who cannot protect his own kids and people and house all because of his own mistake??
We all make mistakes sure, what matters is how you fix that blunder, or at least try to not make it worse.
The house condition before Patience become breadwinner were supported by chump changes from the servants, the kids must bear the cross their father should carry, and so far story show this father did NOTHING to fix it.
Then in this chapter he show how he acknowledge what Patience has done, making life easier for everyone in house.
Sure, at least he does not make things going south, but then, what is he doing?? As for now he is nothing better than an adult who ask money from his kid for his expense, and tell her to not worry. Like dude, it is your DAUGHTER money, why you act like it is YOUR money.

If the father stopped keeping up appearances, someone would come to dissolve the family and clean up the situation. That includes hiring the staff and dealing with the kids. That's a terrible outcome, but still better than children starving to death while the maids work part time jobs
