And then all the mages exploded (hopefully).

What? No, it's perfectly fine. They're listing off things they could do to a wild animal after killing it. Cooking it, using its hide for leather/a coat, etc. It's showing them as unruly knights joking around, showing disrespect to the ruler of the forest by just treating it like a wild animal to be hunted. It jumps from "how do we cook it" to "we should skin it" because neither thing is actually part of the plan, it's knights who just have their own ideas on what to do with the corpse, but the conversation flows exactly as it should.

If your brain immediately jumps to the slang usage of "cook" then that's your own internet brainrot to sort out, this conversation flows perfectly fine.
"How should we cook the forest ruler when it shows it's face?"
"It's a beast, you know? We should make a fur coat out of it and present it to the king."
"Great idea!"

The whole "flow" of that feels off since the second guy seems to be responding to the first guy and it doesn't fit, a simple switch of the words would have made it less ambiguous "You know, it's a beast so we should etc".
It might be that the original japanese was just as bad or that it simply translates poorly into english, idk, but regarding my "internet brainrot" I can only blame the increased frequency of bad uses of "cook" (and other out of place slang) I've been encountering from TLs lately.

He have no idea but his actions like deflecting cause some chaos. Just mere wishing cause some changes. He would learn about it after the king's death, the civil war that happen and even further . Even then it is passing knowledge. He only known when a certain fact is revealed.
Feels like it should be two separate manga tbh, i wouldn't mind it on the other side where it's that "good" black haired knight's POV and him surviving throughout the 'mysterious forces'

Otherwise iin the mean time maybe ppl should check out the korean webtoons /manhua with super long strips per chapter if you want a good chunk of progress per chapter (or at least a full color strip lol)

Half of this series' fun is the wholesome slice-of-life, the other half is the brutal karmic retribution overpowered to an obscene extent.

WE'RE GETTING SOME OF THE LATTER SOON.

Well, 'soon' is relative but it does feel like this could drag on for five years for us, even if we got 'full' chapters rather than split up parts

But other than some miracle or the author leaking it (tho i imagine the monthly stuff is enough time for them to enjoy breaks versus drawing everyday), i doubt we'd get like , a 20 chapter drop in a week or so

Sorry, I can't help it but, yeah, spoilers in the spoilers block.

The webnovel has ended a while back. I am not confident that the manga adaptation will even reach halfway. Heck, I'd be satisfied if they'd reach the midway point (and omit all the stuff that would only be relevant for the latter half, that is, the last three books).

I have my own opinions about the ending, as well as the course of the story in the latter half, which I'll leave out even in a spoiler block like this. However, I really like how the author has pulled off the first half of the story.

I know that the pacing (even in the webnovel) is incredibly glacial, but the kingdom intrigue plotline and the MC's shenanigans involving the magic stone (!), and the stone golems really paid off in the end. Even some of the forest creatures got in on the action. This also sets the stage for the second half of the story, which well, I'm not particularly happy with the execution.

Basically, my complaint is that the story really got huge in scope in the second half and things basically got watered down.

At any rate, if knowing what happened to our MC, the kingdom, and the various characters in the story is what one's after, then yeah, the WN (both the raw and the fan translated version) is already complete, and one can just refer to that.

Yeah i don't know how many manga adaptation reach as far as the webnovel, even when they get anime adaptations, one more recent thing I saw had up to chapter 5 but the note mentioned that the light novel ver had up to '17 volumes' so that'd take forever to get to even on a weekly schedule unless the artist think's the job's good enough/consistent paying to dedicate most of their time to versus doing their own thing if not a renewed contract every major arc

At the very least hopefully we can see him adopt the two beastkin girl and boy that ran from the forest
