Oh.... we're getting closer to where I kinda stopped reading for a bit. I really should return to the novel, see if there was more translated.

But I remember what's going to happen soon enough. In case anyone is wondering.

The wifey here is getting a taste of power. A taste of power she thinks she owns fully by herself. It's going to fuel the idea that she doesn't need her hubby anymore, so she'll end up trying to use his cut power against him because she thinks she has enough usurped power to protect herself without having to rely on him anymore. Well, it fails pretty badly. After all, he has the ability to cut anything conceptual. I forget what he cut but he did effectively render her harmless before she was able to do anything to take his life. She's still alive, he's trying to make her fall in love with him again, but she's kind of under mind control. I forget the details exactly.
Wow so basically the author wrote himself into a corner and the story is absolute shit.

I really don't understand why he couldn't just "cut her mind" and remove the parts that made her turn to betrayal. I guess it's part of the whole Japanese obsession with "rehabilitation," even when it just plain doesn't make sense. It's not like the MC has been shown to have much scruples or some kind of sense of righteousness before. Why would he suddenly care if he has to mentally alter her a little bit to be more compliant?
That must've been pretty deep in the novel because I remember reading a fair bit farther than this and that hadn't happened yet. Maybe I just don't remember it; since like you, it's been ages since I read it.
Hey.
I went back to the Syosetsu raws that's linked on the front page of the manga on mangadex.

It's Chapter 20 that this occurs on.

Even with the rough translations, depending on which translation tool you use, you can clearly tell this is where her attempt at taking his power, authority and killing him happens. And it fails because he literally cuts her off from the ability to cut him. And on the next chapter, the epilogue, it's revealed that he gave her a Master to Slave order that makes her behave like an ideal wifey again with the hope that he can somehow love her so much she'll truly love him again. So yeah, didn't really happen that far in the novel. First volume. I have yet to read the second volume so now I know where I left off.

To be fair, the author did write something about her personality early on.

So. Weekend, I'm kind of entertained with conversing about the upcoming train wreck. I'm looking back through some of the manga chapters to see if the author also laid some hints here and there about Shizuka. The key is looking at her thought bubbles. Chapter 1 at the end you can see a bit of what her priority is. Chapter 3 she's calmly aware of why they're snu snuing so hard.

Ah, found it. Chapter 4. That is where the main point as to why Shizuka eventually betrays him. You get insight in her mind in here, particularly that she is looking at him as a tool for her protection. The skill she took was specifically to prevent pregnancy as well. And the only reason she became so much more devoted to him was the deep fear of death that she received from the monster getting so close to her. But once she got access to Authority. She just returned all the way back to her base personality, being calculating and determining that she would likely not just be safe but be a top dog of this world without having to be subservient to him anymore.

So her main driving factor, survival and protection, were no longer dependent on him existing. And again, the skill she took as insurance to avoid pregnancy by converting his semen into exp meant she managed to keep her out open. Unfortunately for her, she miscalculated, misunderstood the extent of his powers. I forget if the MC had taken precautions, or if he had simply been given enough time because she talked too much. Either way in the novel you can find the betrayal happening here: https://novel18.syosetu.com/n3031gx/21/

Let's hope that the manga deviates from that. Otherwise, what happened in Chapter 4 will be rendered both moot and irrelevant.
Yo.

Actually what happened in Chapter 4 explains why that happens.

Just going to look at the relevant stuff.

Page 2: "I, Inoue Shizuka am a fundamentally calculating woman."
"I Accepted Itou Haruki so he would protect me."
"I picked Semen Suction because it might prevent me from getting pregnant."

Page 5: "I don't hate Haruki but... In situations like this, having protection is important."
"That's why I need to do my best to make Haruki do his best."
"That's my current relationship with Haruki."
"Well, I do feel attachment and fondess with him."
"If this small feeling of love grows, he might become an important person to me."
"That was what I thought..." - Page 6 "Until that day"

Page 26: "I have completely fallen for Haruki in that single moment..."
"He could instantly kill that overwhelming monster... My female's instinct to seek a strong male has completely taken over."
Context, she just survived an encounter with what should have been an inevitable death.

Page 27: "In this world, where the strong prey upon the weak, this action is completely natural."
"My calculations and small affections have been blown away."

"Possessive desire that can't be resisted due to it being instinctive."
"My instinct to remove all possible other females..."

Page 28: "Haruki is mine alone!"
"What made her fall was "Overwhelming Strength"."
^ This is not my comment or observation, this is me quoting the Narration at the bottom right of the page.

Note those last two pages.

Her small affections were blown away. Not by love, but by instinct.
What she initially thought of Haruki possibly becoming someone important to her as her small affections for him may grow was overturned on the day when she nearly died.
She became possessive of him because of what made her fall, his Overwhelming Strength and survival instincts. Where her little calculating mind and social games no longer mattered in a world where giant monsters existed.

So she didn't love him. She loved the protection his power provided.

So tell me, what happens when this person now gains power that allows her to protect herself? When she gets so much power she no longer has to worry about being protected?

Again, to be fair to the author, he did actually lay the groundwork for why she tries to bacsktab him once she feels she's more than powerful enough to face the world by herself.

Small edit. Also looking at where we're at. We're at Chapter 18 or so in the novel, with where the manga is at. Seems the manga is going at a relatively fast pace here.

So within the next 1-3 chapters of the manga, it's potentially going to happen. Would not be surprised if it decided to end the next chapter in a cliffhanger, resolve it in the chapter after that. Then Ch16 of the manga would be the epilogue. Or they could condense that into the next two chapters too. Depends on how many panels of sex we get I guess?

Yeah, I just totally glossed that over. Going back and reading this section, I probably started skimming because I just didn't care about this at all. That's why I think that entire twist just falls completely flat.
Seriously, who is even greatly attached to Shizuka? Most people are probably more attached to the cat woman than her. This betrayal elicits no strong emotions, just a little bit of disappointment and slight confusion that Haruki cares that much to have a genuine connection with her when he's so blasé about everything else. He's always putting the two of them first, but I always just assumed it was mainly a physical thing. I guess I need to reread and see where he got genuinely attached.
edit: Ps. thanks for linking the raws so I could jump right in and reread this section.

so i decided to continue reading a bit more and...
there's no way she's planning a 2nd rebellion but at the same time she also hates seeing him act nice to another girl to the point of spitting out blood....

Honestly, even during her rebellion, I didn't get the sense that she was gonna abandon him after usurping him, but that she wanted to become the dominant one in the relationship. In the end she just ended up where she started, minus what little free will and agency she had, and her purpose in the story remained the same.

This whole thing.. ero-fun as it is just kinda becoming a bit stoopid now.. I mean there's no exploration or explanation as to why he's so emotionally detached and whilst I do generally like the OP mc trope, this situation where he literally breathes and his enemies fall over is just a bit much. Where's the challenge?

Also, the whole women being held to ransom under threat of being raped seems to have been the initial manga shock-hook and nothing more? Not that we need more of it but does it not occur to the mc to try and save his classmates? Even if he's emotinally detached, surely he recognises they're not as fortunate as him (though clearly feel otherwise wouldn't love his wife)!

The authors approach to the Chancellor and cat girl seems ot almost ignore the fact they've been behind some pretty horrid (and presumably ongoing) blackmail which the mc could literally 'Cut' to solve. And whatever happened to classmates Hero's animosity? Seems to have fizzled oput pretty quickly so why introduce the plot line?

Gah.. maybe I need to stop thinking too much about this series! :wtf:

For a researcher he's pretty stupid. They already knew how powerful he is. How many times are they gonna mess with someone who's basically a god? Not to mention she's just as powerful. What a bunch of dopes. lol

Thanks for the upload.
As many times as people buy chapters of this. In other words, until the publisher pulls the plug.
