I never noticed reading it before, but the pantheon is rather well-rounded compared to the usual "god-of-sunrises-but-only-on-mondays" variety many fantasy settings do nowadays. Multiple loosely related concepts per god show that the author has at least done some homework on how real polytheistic religions worked.

What kind of moron gives a hero the power of domination? They never heard about "Power corrupts" and dominating other people is at the top that corruption ladder.
Yeah. The sister already started out as a potentially corrupt power user. The male friend didn't seem to be a prime candidate for Nobel Peace Prize, either.
And the third "hero", that smaller girl, just kept quiet, so not so much to trust/rely on.
