Anything chaotic-neutral is just pure bullshit. Anyone who owns up that alignment is just trying to say: "I want to do whatever I want, and whatever I want constantly changes".
The MC's alignment is chaotic-good, for the very least.

Also about that alignment: You don't need to be chaotic to think this whole situation is fucked up. Even a neutral-good person would like to throw up. Heck, even a lawful-good character would find that hard to swallow. A lawful-good one might even end up opposing that again, if she/he starts to think of that as a intolerable act of bending and perverting established laws. (Without hack'n'slash-justice of course)
