@AMetroid if you want the short and simple answer the author didn't think much and just put it in.
The longer and still equally simple answer is just 2 words:"Fantasy World."
Although its easy to make the assumption that this world is earth + magic, its actually a lot more complicated when you add magic to the mix because earth evolved the way it did with a very precise set of circumstances.
This other world which i will dub htrae has an unknown energy which is mana, and side effects of mana is that people can use magic and animals grow a crystal inside them which allows them to use magic, which basically chucks out the 1st law of Thermodynamics because you can create energy from nothing.
But hey lets gloss over that and wonder how they can get coco from the tropics, which i might add we have no idea in relation to the place the mc is because we have yet to see a map and we also don't even know if cacao needs to necessarily grow in the tropics in this world because it could grow anywhere for all we know.
So again the simple answer is that it's a fantasy world so there's no point using your knowledge about the earth because that knowledge is very much based on the only livable planet we are familiar with.
