I’m not an expert on the subject, but I think it might have something to do with passivity.
Japan, from what I’ve seen, has a culture that discourages breaking from the mold. Even something like telling someone “hey, I don’t want to talk to you” is only acceptable if the speaker says something like “you know, I’d prefer not to talk about X”. In a sense, rather than make a scene in an attempt to get what they want or don’t want, culture has them try so in a polite way.
What I’m trying to get at is that while the author may want a big titty demon GF who loves him unconditionally and wants to ravage him like an animal, to actively request that would be seen as too demanding. But if one was thrusted upon him as if he didn’t want it, he wouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth.
But again, maybe I’m getting this all wrong. Japan’s a big place, so maybe we can’t let a subset of authors paint our impressions of them.
