There are a lot of waifus sure, but most of his interactions with them is platonic, and as far as i remember only the first receptionist girl have a crush on him. Its like real life. You run into people who are a hassle all the time. Work...school...the store...even online. The only way to avoid it is to be a shut-in. There are rarely any instances where you will be with people who won't have one thing that annoys you (even amoung best friends).
Plus if characters like this weren't introduced, stories would get boring.

I think Ria was supposed to be his love interest, it's just the manga's aesthetic that she's a knee high loli. I think she was only a head shorter than him in the light novel. Hard to tell since he doesn't have anyone in the web novel and just travels around alone.
