I totally believed she had red hair. Because she is a fire mage? Probably that too. But also because it's usually red heads who have that "I ain't taking no BS" personality in manga.

I'm guessing his issue is not so much the idea that he's stealing, but more that the "dirty black-headed cur" isn't "giving his proper deference and dues". Cut him in in exchange for the privilege of generally existing and being bossed around, because he's a filthy disaster bringer. Standard "bully/future gang boss" things.

What I'm a lot more curious is why the hell are there so many magic fucking users in the bloody slum. I could maybe get the fire mage, aside from combat that's mostly a little bit of convenience until the magic grows to really high levels or they are living in some very extreme climates/weather conditions. But how the hell is a damn healer (as seen in the previous chapter) that poor?

I think he is making a pinching gesture, which would insinuate that Ed was pinching (stealing) from the store.

I actually wonder, if being blonde or bright brown was more prominent 500 years ago in Medivial places that are now Germany, France and England. Blue eyes and bright blond hair is actually quite rare, i dont have statistics right now, but Id say less than 10%. Id say that dark black hair is even more common than bright blonde. If you visit Skandinavian countries blonde is probably more prominent.

But yeah, obviously it is done, so the Japanese reader can self incert and feel excluded, though they arent. But still facial structures are different, but these are rarely conveyed in manga / anime media. They sometimes do it when they portray Koreans. ^^
